BIOGRAPHY / STATEMENT
Bob Logsdon is an accomplished landscape photographer, residing in Grand Detour, Illinois. Bob is an extensive traveler who documents his traveling experience in his pictures. It is through photography that Bob introduces the viewer to his endless and challenging imagination.
Bob started his life in photography when his children were small. Over the last four decades, Bob has photographed his children, grandchildren, and now great grandchildren. It was during his vacations, that he became interested in landscape and underwater photography. His travels throughout America provided him with an intimate insight into his subject and surroundings and peaked his desire to capture it in photographs.
In 2004, after Bob retired, his wife Colleen, the first director of the fine art gallery, The Next Picture Show, in Dixon, IL, encouraged him to exhibit his photography. He started to exhibit and sells his images. Bob has been accepted in many juried art exhibitions and has received many awards.
Bob believes that photography is about much more than just making good pictures. For Bob, photography captures the essence of a subject that lives in the photograph and moves the viewer to another time and place.
Bob Logsdon was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He moved to Rockford, Illinois in 1952. Upon graduating from Rockford East High School (1959) he went to work for the Rockford Drop Forge Company as a Cost Accountant, transferring to the Data Processing Department in 1960. There he worked with Mike Dolan, an IBM System Engineer, and was one of the pioneers in the development of online data business systems. Together they developed the first interactive computer system for mid-range level computers. In 1981 he joined Raynor Garage Door Company as the Director of Information System, and retired after 24 years of service.
For the past seven years, he has traveled extensively in the Continental United States, Hawaiian Islands, and Alaska photographing mid-western farms, western landscapes, along with Atlantic and Pacific seascapes. From 1984 through 1995 he explored the undersea worlds of the Caribbean Sea and Hawaiian Islands. Bob states, "It was a thrill to be able experience the undersea world and photograph beautiful corals and sea life".
Bob Logsdon currently resides in the quaint historic Village of Grand Detour, Illinois, in the beautiful Rock River Valley. This picturesque region has attracted artists from the time of Lorado Taft and the Eagles Nest Art Camp (1892 - 1942) through today. He and his wife, Colleen, are currently organizing projects that document the artistic history of the area for the use and education of future generations.
